Lisa Jo Rudy, Science Editor
Lisa Jo Rudy is a veteran science writer and educator, with over 20 years of experience in translating complex scientific and technological concepts for the non-technical public.
Lisa began her career with The Cambridge Forum, a public affairs radio and television non-profit based in a church basement in Harvard Square. Her position at Cambridge Forum was "Coordinator of the Preventing Nuclear War Project," and she is pleased to report that she has been successful in preventing nuclear war up to this point!
In 1987, Lisa became Senior Writer for The Franklin Institute Science Museum in Philadelphia, where she built skills in communication, grant writing, science writing, exhibit writing and multimedia script writing. Leaving the Franklin Institute in 1992, she became a full time consultant and writer. Over the years, she has served as editor, writer, consultant and researcher for such organizations as -
• The National Science Foundation
• Educational publishers including Harper Collins, Scholastic and Time, Inc.
Since 2006, Lisa has been the About.com Guide to Autism, a part of the New York Times Company. She has also written and consulted for many online publishers, including CNN.com and Tonic.com. Lisa is the author of 15 trade books for children and adults, most of them focused on science and technology topics. She develops distance learning courses for major universities and websites, and consults to museums and non-profits in New England and the Mid-Atlantic.
Lisa holds a Masters in Divinity from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Arts in the humanities from Wesleyan University. She lives in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, with her husband Peter and two children, Tom and Sara. If she squints through the trees from the third floor of her home, she can just see the sun setting over Buzzard's Bay.
