Earthzine Hosts Second NASA DEVELOP Virtual Poster Session, Awards Prize for Best Overall Project Engagement

Image of a satellite with Earth in the backgroundDuring the 2011 NASA DEVELOP summer term, 140 students and young professionals investigated topics ranging from tracking the public health exposure to air quality and extreme heat events in Los Angeles to the ecological impacts of the 2011 tsunami disaster in Japan. Out of 22 research projects, a panel of scientists chose one team as the overall winner, and named three runners-up, based on projects that garnered the best comments and dialogue.

Science Serving Society – Spring 2011 Virtual Poster Session

Ten Earth science projects were conducted across that nation by eight different DEVELOP teams, focusing on topics such as water quality, disaster management, public health, and ecological forecasting. DEVELOP is a training and development program that provides students and young professionals with experience in utilizing and integrating satellite remote sensing data into real world applications while extending NASA Earth science research and technology to society.
